<\/span>I will<br \/>\ntell you.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Picture to yourself an immense<br \/>\ndark room.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>There is no light, save for a<br \/>\ntiny red glow floating feebly at the further end.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Yet its puny radiance enables you to pick out<br \/>\nan ornate table, with a sort of box standing on top of it.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>On either side gleam tall, cold, brass<br \/>\ncandlesticks, standing stiff like frigid sentinels.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>And as you realize where you are, and slide<br \/>\nto your knees, you feel a Presence.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-fzhnl9mT6bA\/T9BKGVY_9XI\/AAAAAAAAB3w\/BrYiiE7wHiY\/s1600\/candles.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"243\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-fzhnl9mT6bA\/T9BKGVY_9XI\/AAAAAAAAB3w\/BrYiiE7wHiY\/s400\/candles.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\">\n<br \/>\n<span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Yes, reader,<br \/>\nthe loneliest place in the world is an empty Catholic Church.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Whether in the dimness of an immense<br \/>\ncathedral, or smothered in the smoky smallness of a tiny chapel, there is always<br \/>\nthe same atmosphere of silent solitude.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>Here dwells One, Who for 2000 years has voluntarily shut Himself up in<br \/>\nour tabernacles, in order to be near us.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>And we have abandoned Him.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Who can even<br \/>\nbegin to measure the self-abasing love of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Almighty God conceals His Infinite Majesty<br \/>\nunder the appearance of a tiny piece of bread!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>And Jesus desired that He should be placed in the Tabernacle, amongst<br \/>\nus, close to us, so that we may not fear to approach Him.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 9.5pt; line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8220;Come to<br \/>\nMe, all you that labour and are burdened, and I will refresh you!&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Such is His silent plea.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He has come to help us in our trials, to be<br \/>\nwith us in Person, but do we turn to Him?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>Oh, how the Divine Prisoner must strain against His chains when He sees<br \/>\nso many souls sitting sullenly in a swamp of sins and all the sorrows spawned<br \/>\ntherefrom.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>&#8220;Come to Me!&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>They are deaf to His call &#8211; either they<br \/>\nrefuse to hear Him, or they forget to listen.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>Dazed by the demands of the World, the Flesh, and the Devil, their wills<br \/>\ngrow steadily colder, and turn away from their Saviour, Who pleads still, even<br \/>\nthough His Voice is drowned by the clamour of His enemies.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-ALqW8jlYsOw\/T9BNGDtRcaI\/AAAAAAAAB4M\/Fv2bylzAIJs\/s1600\/Pictures+034.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-ALqW8jlYsOw\/T9BNGDtRcaI\/AAAAAAAAB4M\/Fv2bylzAIJs\/s400\/Pictures+034.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 9.5pt; line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Day after<br \/>\nday, week after week, year after year &#8211; aye, century after century, Jesus waits<br \/>\nin the Blessed Sacrament.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He is hidden<br \/>\nin the tabernacle, but His Eye beholds all the souls of the world.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He sees them, hundreds of them, as they daily<br \/>\nhurry past His door, intent upon their business, caught up in a tortuous whirlwind<br \/>\nof worldly worries and care.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He watches<br \/>\nthem with loving, sorrowful Eyes.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He<br \/>\npities these souls rushing here and there, ever in pursuit of happiness, and<br \/>\nnever finding it.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Our Lord holds out His<br \/>\nHands to them, eager to draw them apart from the brutal bustle of the world and<br \/>\ngive them peace.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>But they hasten on, ignorant<br \/>\nof the true Source of Happiness within arm&#8217;s reach, unaware of the consolations<br \/>\nthey could have for the asking, if only they would turn to Him!<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">True, on<br \/>\nSundays His House is visited &#8211; perhaps by many, or perhaps only a few.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He welcomes them all eagerly, and sets out<br \/>\nHis richest graces, ready to pour them in abundance upon His guests.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>But here again, His Love is slighted.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Souls do not think to open their hearts to Him,<br \/>\nto tell Him all their troubles, to ask for His graces.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>They sit there, wrestling with worries,<br \/>\nunaware that the all-powerful, all-loving Sacred Heart, only a few feet away,<br \/>\nhas an avalanche of grace, strength and consolation all ready to pour down upon<br \/>\nthem, driving away all their cares, if they would only ask Him.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">And what about<br \/>\nwhen these souls receive Holy Communion?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>Here is a fresh proof of the sublime love of the King of Kings, for He<br \/>\ndoes not come to be ministered to, but to minister.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He comes, the Source of Grace, with all the<br \/>\ngraces He sees each individual soul needs.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>He is omnipotent &#8211; by His mere presence in that poor weak, sin-infested<br \/>\nsoul, He can turn all its sorrows into joy.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>But forgetfulness, ignorance, and even neglect paralyse His action, and<br \/>\nHe, respecting the freewill of His creatures, is obliged to leave much work<br \/>\nundone.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">What a<br \/>\npitiful condition He is in!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Our Lord in<br \/>\nthe Blessed Sacrament is consumed with a scorching desire to heal us, to<br \/>\nconsole us, and yet He cannot reach us, for we do not approach Him.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Let us kneel before Him, and console Him in<br \/>\nHis loneliness.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Let us turn to Him in<br \/>\nevery trouble &#8211; He will be much more anxious to hear the tale of our miseries<br \/>\nthat we could ever be to recite it.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>And<br \/>\nwe may be sure that His Sacred Heart will not be unmoved &#8211; no, He will not let<br \/>\nus leave without His blessing.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Let us<br \/>\nvisit Him, the poor Prisoner of the Tabernacle, the Loneliest of all Captives,<br \/>\nas often as we can; and let us open wide the doors of our souls so that He may<br \/>\nfill them with the graces He is so anxious to bestow.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>And when we cannot visit Him, let us often<br \/>\nturn our thoughts to Him and send our guardian angels to greet Him on our<br \/>\nbehalf, so that at the Last Day we may have the inestimable joy of hearing these<br \/>\nwords from His Lips:<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">&#8220;Come,<br \/>\nye blessed of My Father, and possess the Kingdom which was prepared for you<br \/>\nfrom the beginning . . . for I was in prison, and you visited Me.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;
