\nholy Father St Dominic fell on a Saturday this year, a large part of our
\ncelebrations were held the day before, on Friday 3rd August. This allowed us to have a Solemn High Mass at
\nwhich all the pupils could attend to honour and thank the heavenly patron of
\nour college, and to beg his continued care and intercession throughout the
\ncoming year. Father Cranshaw presided at
\nthe Mass and also preached an interesting sermon on the Dominican motto of Veritas.
\nAfter lunch, the girls\u2019 school descended to the netball court for the
\nhighly-charged Teachers versus Students netball game. Despite the continual downpour of rain
\nthroughout the game (which made the court somewhat more hazardous to play on),
\nthe teachers (with the aid of just a few ex-pupils, ahem) worked their way to a
\nconvincing victory of 23 \u2013 16.

<\/a><\/div>\n\nAs such a victory is a rare event for the teachers, a photo was taken of the scoreboard, to be kept as proof for future generations.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n<\/p>\n
\nin the afternoon, we gathered in the Church with the priests, brothers and our
\ngirls for Solemn (First) Vespers of St Dominic and the Rosary. <\/span>The evening was an eventful one: dinner,
\nsinging and roasting marshmallows around a bonfire, a pi\u00f1ata and other games
\nincluding spotlight on the field. <\/span>We are
\nsure that all enjoyed themselves.

<\/a><\/div>\n<\/p>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n <\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\nexcited participants with their parcels during one of the games.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n\npi\u00f1ata was homemade (as you can tell), a combined effort of one of the sisters
\nand some of the girls. <\/span>The black and
\nwhite dog with a torch in its mouth is of course symbolic of St Dominic. <\/span>Blessed Jane of Aza, St Dominic\u2019s mother, had
\na dream that she gave birth to a dog that would run through the world with a
\ntorch in its mouth, setting the world on fire.
\n<\/span>This of course, was a foreshadowing of what Dominic (and subsequently
\nhis order) would do: carry the light of truth to all men, and set their hearts
\naflame with love of God.<\/span><\/div>\n

\nthe games were all over, the bell was sounded and the priests, brothers,
\nsisters and girls made their way into the church to end the evening with
\nCompline (Dominican style, of course).<\/span><\/p>\n
\nreal St Dominic\u2019s day, Saturday 4th<\/span><\/sup> August, was somewhat quieter: a
\nlow Mass followed by a ceremony for the reception of a new Dominican tertiary,
\nand afterwards, a breakfast for our friends, benefactors, tertiaries, teachers
\nand past pupils. It was a great delight
\nto be able to thank our benefactors for their support over the past
\nyear, as well as to \u201ccatch up\u201d with our dear past pupils.<\/a><\/div>\n
\nto our surprise, our community was here presented with a beautiful piece of
\nartwork (the product of a very talented Dominican tertiary, as well as a kind
\npriest), centred on a Dominican theme.<\/a><\/div>\n
\npart of the St Dominic\u2019s Day celebrations, Father MacPherson was asked to judge
\nthe girls\u2019 art competition entries. <\/span>The
