\nAfter
\na farewell to Reverend Father Michael Fortin, who left for the Philippines, the
\nChildren of Mary received its new chaplain, Reverend Father Louis
\nBochkoltz.  <\/span>There was an official welcome
\nfor Father on May 2nd<\/sup>, at which we celebrated his arrival by an
\nafternoon tea and singing competition \u2013 girls vs Fr Bochkoltz. Each team had a
\nlimited amount of time to sing a line from a song (no repetitions allowed) and
\nif they took too long the opposition won. 
\n<\/span>This continued to go back and forth for at least 20 minutes until
\nfinally\u2026. (We admit defeat, Father!)<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/a> <\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nOn
\nJune 29th<\/sup>, Feast of Sts Peter and Paul, we attended Mass as a
\nsodality.  <\/span>This was followed by a
\nbreakfast of croissants and pain au chocolat. 
\n<\/span>This was a combined celebration of our chaplain\u2019s 3rd<\/sup>
\nanniversary of his ordination as well as the 7th<\/sup> anniversary of the
\nChildren of Mary in Wanganui which actually fell on July 2nd<\/sup>, a few
\ndays later.  <\/span>Our sodality president used
\nher artistic abilities to make an amusing card for Father and we all
\ncontributed to a spiritual bouquet for him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\n <\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\nMasses
\nand meetings later came our \u201csurprise trip\u201d (Father loves to give surprises) \u2013
\na hike organised by Father Bochkoltz and Sister Madeleine.  <\/span>Though planned for July 16th<\/sup>, Feast
\nof Our Lady of Mount Carmel, it was postponed to the 20th<\/sup> due to the
\ninclement weather.  <\/span>It had cleared by the
\n20th<\/sup> and the sky was the colour of Our Lady\u2019s mantle.  <\/span>Although some of the girls were no longer
\nable to come, there were still a good number of us to make the hike an
\nenjoyable event.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n

\n<\/a>After
\nMass and breakfast, we set off for the Ruahine Ranges, a two hour drive from
\nWanganui.  <\/span>Though some of us \u201calmost
\ndied\u201d (definitely not our energetic chaplain who took great delight in
\ncapturing the difficult moments on his camera), the hike was worth it. We were
\nliterally climbing to get to the top. We even encountered ice on the track and
\nhad to tread very carefully in order not to slip.<\/span><\/div>\n

\nUpon
\nreaching our destination \u2013 Rangiwahia Hut – there was a magnificent view of
\nMount Ruapehu covered in snow.  <\/span>Our
\nsodality chefs made us crepes while we took in the breath-taking surroundings
\nfrom the hut veranda. After lunch we sang songs and played a memory game and
\nthen packed up.<\/o:p><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n

\nAfter a quick descent, and a noisy drive home, we ended the day with fish \u2018n\u2019 chips and games – these were thought up by Father, of course! <\/span>All in all it was a splendid day and one we will always cherish.<\/span>

\nOn
\nAugust 10th<\/sup>, we assisted at Benediction and Rosary as a Sodality and
\nthen made our way down to the tennis club for some festivities in honour of our
\nPatroness, St Philomena.  <\/span>The Fathers and
\nBrothers joined us for the occasion.  <\/span>The
\nroom was beautifully decorated with a red and white theme \u2013 the tables were
\ncovered in white tablecloths and there were red and white balloons and
\nserviettes.  <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/span><\/span> <\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe menu consisted of pizzas and chips followed by dessert. <\/span> <\/span>After the
\nmeal we were divided into teams of three to compete in different games prepared
\nby two sisters on the council.  <\/span>Everyone
\nhad a wonderful time and was reluctant to go home.  <\/span>The next day we all assisted at the Mass in
\nhonour of St Philomena.  <\/span>May we grow more
\nin virtue like her each day!<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n

\nWe
\nall agree that the Children of Mary never stops being interesting and the
\nspiritual benefits make it even better! 
\n<\/span>We are all very excited about the prospect of a future branch of our
\nsodality being established in Auckland by one of our former members and the
\npossibility of another sodality in the Philippines.  <\/span>May Our Lady bless these holy apostolates with
\nmany members.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
