TIME FLIES WHEN YOU ARE HAVING FUN<\/s>\/<\/span><\/b>Working For The Lord<\/span><\/b><\/b><\/div>\n
2012
\nseems to have flown by. In September we had the honour of our visiting Mother
\nGeneral on the eve of her Feast Day,<\/span> <\/span>a Children of Mary BBQ for the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin,<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/a><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/a><\/div>\n
and a community outing which had as an aim \u2013 EXERCISE<\/b> – but in reality, turned out to be a long drive through tunnels, over mountains, hills and plains; on the way passing a vast variety of wildlife on a forgotten highway, only to walk about 20 minutes to NZ\u2019s longest waterfall then jump back in the van again so we could make it back to the convent before midnight. Luckily for us, we didn\u2019t turn into pumpkins.<\/span><\/div>\n
Now we are nearly at the end of yet another
\nschool year.\u00a0 <\/span>Our senior girls have been
\nstudying hard in preparation for their Cambridge Examinations, which they are
\nnow sitting and which, unfortunately for them, continue to run through the
\nmid-term holiday break. They have the consolation, however, of knowing that
\nthey are candidates at an exam centre which has been passed as \u2018completely
\nsatisfactory\u2019 by the Cambridge inspector, thanks to our competent Cambridge
\nAdministrator.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0At the same time, the Form 1 & 2 girls were full of excitement as they prepared to present scenes from “The Wind in the Willows” for their parents and some of the older girls.<\/span><\/div>\n

However, the excitement and work of
\nperforming was not left to the junior girls alone.Forms One to Seven were all
\ninvolved recently in the annual inter-house music competition.As always, the
\ncompetition between the three houses, Prouille, Calaroga and Bologna, was
\nstiff; each house was required to perform a compulsory singing set-piece, and
\nteam-members could gain additional points by entering individuals or groups in
\nsinging or musical performances.While there was only one winning house in the
\nend, the afternoon was certainly enjoyed by all, and it was very pleasing to be
\nable to witness the wonderful musical talents that many of the girls possess.At
\nthe end of the competition, there was one final round of excitement: a pair of
\nour more musical Sisters, who felt that the girls had not done sufficient
\njustice to the set-piece (\u201cHere\u2019s a howdy-do\u201d from the comic opera The Mikado<\/i>), ventured to take the stage
\nand give the audience a proper, lively rendition of the song.<\/span><\/div>\n

Sister Mary Madeleine\u2019s long-awaited sports
\nequipment grant finally came through and was put to good use providing the
\nschool with equipment for track, badminton, table-tennis, volleyball, and
\nbasketball, among other things. The last two games have proved especially
\npopular with the students, both during and after school hours. Among the girls
\nwho enjoyed trying out the new equipment was a guest from New Caledonia,
\nMarie-Elisabeth, who stayed with a family in the parish and attended our school
\nfor two weeks. Her sister Genevieve had also come for a visit a few weeks
\npreviously.<\/span><\/div>\n

In
\nfact, we have been more than usually blessed with visitors during this year.
\nBesides the two from New Caledonia, we also received two Americans, Miss Moats
\nand Miss Dolphin, who offered their most enthusiastic help with school, parish
\nand convent activities. Besides working with individual students, they have
\ngenerously taken over all kinds of jobs\u2014from baking and ironing to folding
\nmail, supervising classes, marking, and various other duties which make up a
\nbusy day.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n
At the
\nend of October, New Zealand
\nprepared a rousing welcome for another visitor, Bishop Tissier de Mallerais,
\nwith sizeable earthquakes on two consecutive nights of his visit! Although he
\nhad administered Confirmation in Auckland
\non Saturday morning and was to do so here in Wanganui in the evening, he kindly
\nagreed to give a conference to the Sisters on the afternoon of his arrival, and
\nspoke to us about Archbishop Lefebvre and the founding of the SSPX.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Among
\nother interesting insights, he traced the foundation of the Society\u2014a
\nMissionary society, after all\u2014to the generosity of Swiss Catholic families to
\nthe Missions. The Swiss Bishop who first approved the foundation of the Fribourg
\nhouse would not have known anything about Archbishop Lefebvre had not his
\npeople donated so generously to the missions that he was invited to Africa to consecrate a church which had been built with
\ntheir help!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
The
\nnext day was the feast of Christ the King, and twelve young children received
\ntheir King for the first time sacramentally, from the Bishop\u2019s hands. After
\nMass, St. Anthony\u2019s Parish braved the rain to
\ndo public honour to our Lord by a procession through the Gonville streets. The
\nBlessed Sacrament passed over a sawdust carpet beautifully decorated by Brother
\nAndre and his young helpers, around the block, and to the outdoor Benediction
\naltar in front of a parishoner\u2019s house, where a neighbour lady behind us gave
\nher pet dog a running commentary on the proceedings! Then through the Gonville
\ndomain we marched back to the church, finishing the Rosary and singing as we
\nwent.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

While
\ndeploying all the power of spiritual means to extend Christ\u2019s kingdom, we have
\nnot been oblivious to material means. Students, staff and religious of the
\nparish worked hard to make this year\u2019s Bike-a-Thon fundraiser a success, and were
\nable to raise NZ$61,610 dollars for the school.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

A
\nfierce competition mounted between the Dominican Sisters and the SSPX Priests\/Brothers
\nfor the title of \u201cBest Fundraiser\u201d and needless to say, was won by the Sisters,
\nwith the result that we are looking forward to a delicious meal, home-cooked in
\nthe presbytery kitchen, which will be delivered to our door for the feast of
\nAll Dominican Saints on November 12!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The
\nstudents also competed among themselves, and the best fundraisers\u2014both
\nindividuals and class groups\u2014were awarded prizes, for example a class trip to a
\ndestination chosen by the students. We thank all the generous benefactors through
\nwhom God\u2019s providence works for the growth of His sovereignty here in St.
\nAnthony\u2019s parish.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

As we
\nnear the end of year, a time when blood pressure levels rise as we head into
\nexaminations, reports, prizegivings, Final School Masses and this year a 10th<\/sup>
\nAnniversary celebration, we were fortunate in having two well-rounded guests \u201cdrop
\nin\u201d one day, which provided much recreation for the Sisters. There is a funny
\nstory attached to this visit and details will be revealed at the heavenly
\nnuptial banquet.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nwe CAN tell you is this. Very exciting news will be announced soon by Mother
