In September we had the honour of our visiting Mother<br \/>\nGeneral on the eve of her Feast Day,<\/span> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-NZ\" style=\"font-family: Times; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;\">a Children of Mary BBQ for the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin,<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-mrEkY6HJB-0\/UJsOYWQnj1I\/AAAAAAAACvc\/UgGUKN-9jBM\/s1600\/2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-mrEkY6HJB-0\/UJsOYWQnj1I\/AAAAAAAACvc\/UgGUKN-9jBM\/s200\/2.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-4MVwsxvpvqk\/UJsOgWk0UTI\/AAAAAAAACvk\/pQkFME91PmU\/s1600\/3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-4MVwsxvpvqk\/UJsOgWk0UTI\/AAAAAAAACvk\/pQkFME91PmU\/s200\/3.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-4MVwsxvpvqk\/UJsOgWk0UTI\/AAAAAAAACvk\/pQkFME91PmU\/s1600\/3.jpg\">\u00a0<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">and a community outing which had as an aim \u2013 <b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\">EXERCISE<\/b> &#8211; but in reality, turned out to be a long drive through tunnels, over mountains, hills and plains; on the way passing a vast variety of wildlife on a forgotten highway, only to walk about 20 minutes to NZ\u2019s longest waterfall then jump back in the van again so we could make it back to the convent before midnight. Luckily for us, we didn\u2019t turn into pumpkins.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span lang=\"EN-NZ\" style=\"line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-NZ; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;\">Now we are nearly at the end of yet another<br \/>\nschool year.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Our senior girls have been<br \/>\nstudying hard in preparation for their Cambridge Examinations, which they are<br \/>\nnow sitting and which, unfortunately for them, continue to run through the<br \/>\nmid-term holiday break. They have the consolation, however, of knowing that<br \/>\nthey are candidates at an exam centre which has been passed as \u2018completely<br \/>\nsatisfactory\u2019 by the Cambridge inspector, thanks to our competent Cambridge<br \/>\nAdministrator.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">\u00a0At the same time, the Form 1 &amp; 2 girls were full of excitement as they prepared to present scenes from &#8220;The Wind in the Willows&#8221; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><span lang=\"EN-NZ\" style=\"font-family: 'Times','serif';\">However, the excitement and work of<br \/>\nperforming was not left to the junior girls alone.Forms One to Seven were all<br \/>\ninvolved recently in the annual inter-house music competition.As always, the<br \/>\ncompetition between the three houses, Prouille, Calaroga and Bologna, was<br \/>\nstiff; each house was required to perform a compulsory singing set-piece, and<br \/>\nteam-members could gain additional points by entering individuals or groups in<br \/>\nsinging or musical performances.While there was only one winning house in the<br \/>\nend, the afternoon was certainly enjoyed by all, and it was very pleasing to be<br \/>\nable to witness the wonderful musical talents that many of the girls possess.At<br \/>\nthe end of the competition, there was one final round of excitement: a pair of<br \/>\nour more musical Sisters, who felt that the girls had not done sufficient<br \/>\njustice to the set-piece (\u201cHere\u2019s a howdy-do\u201d from the comic opera <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">The Mikado<\/i>), ventured to take the stage<br \/>\nand give the audience a proper, lively rendition of the song.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; The last two games have proved especially<br \/>\npopular with the students, both during and after school hours. Among the girls<br \/>\nwho enjoyed trying out the new equipment was a guest from New Caledonia,<br \/>\nMarie-Elisabeth, who stayed with a family in the parish and attended our school<br \/>\nfor two weeks. Besides working with individual students, they have<br \/>\ngenerously taken over all kinds of jobs\u2014from baking and ironing to folding<br \/>\nmail, supervising classes, marking, and various other duties which make up a<br \/>\nbusy day.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-OuTVsYSY5gU\/UJsfD10_HZI\/AAAAAAAACx8\/EF6UX6qWGAk\/s1600\/12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-OuTVsYSY5gU\/UJsfD10_HZI\/AAAAAAAACx8\/EF6UX6qWGAk\/s640\/12.png\" width=\"640\" height=\"412\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><span lang=\"EN-NZ\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">At the<br \/>\nend of October, New Zealand<br \/>\nprepared a rousing welcome for another visitor, Bishop Tissier de Mallerais,<br \/>\nwith sizeable earthquakes on two consecutive nights of his visit! Although he<br \/>\nhad administered Confirmation in Auckland<br \/>\non Saturday morning and was to do so here in Wanganui in the evening, he kindly<br \/>\nagreed to give a conference to the Sisters on the afternoon of his arrival, and<br \/>\nspoke to us about Archbishop Lefebvre and the founding of the SSPX.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-mdEV4DKjLrk\/UJsijM2QdNI\/AAAAAAAACyg\/lWovlQCtQ50\/s1600\/13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-mdEV4DKjLrk\/UJsijM2QdNI\/AAAAAAAACyg\/lWovlQCtQ50\/s400\/13.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><span lang=\"EN-NZ\" style=\"font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;\">Among<br \/>\nother interesting insights, he traced the foundation of the Society\u2014a<br \/>\nMissionary society, after all\u2014to the generosity of Swiss Catholic families to<br \/>\nthe Missions. After<br \/>\nMass, St. Anthony\u2019s Parish braved the rain to<br \/>\ndo public honour to our Lord by a procession through the Gonville streets. The<br \/>\nBlessed Sacrament passed over a sawdust carpet beautifully decorated by Brother<br \/>\nAndre and his young helpers, around the block, and to the outdoor Benediction<br \/>\naltar in front of a parishoner\u2019s house, where a neighbour lady behind us gave<br \/>\nher pet dog a running commentary on the proceedings! Students, staff and religious of the<br \/>\nparish worked hard to make this year\u2019s Bike-a-Thon fundraiser a success, and were<br \/>\nable to raise NZ$61,610 dollars for the school.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-j-v3IV5HkZw\/UJso0ZttGVI\/AAAAAAAACzQ\/aykTgr1K_yE\/s1600\/17.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-j-v3IV5HkZw\/UJso0ZttGVI\/AAAAAAAACzQ\/aykTgr1K_yE\/s640\/17.png\" width=\"640\" height=\"394\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><span lang=\"EN-NZ\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">A<br \/>\nfierce competition mounted between the Dominican Sisters and the SSPX Priests\/Brothers<br \/>\nfor the title of \u201cBest Fundraiser\u201d and needless to say, was won by the Sisters,<br \/>\nwith the result that we are looking forward to a delicious meal, home-cooked in<br \/>\nthe presbytery kitchen, which will be delivered to our door for the feast of<br \/>\nAll Dominican Saints on November 12!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><span lang=\"EN-NZ\" style=\"font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The<br \/>\nstudents also competed among themselves, and the best fundraisers\u2014both<br \/>\nindividuals and class groups\u2014were awarded prizes, for example a class trip to a<br \/>\ndestination chosen by the students.
