While the<br \/>\nchapter (or, as Mother Micaela later said, the song) has<br \/>\ncome to a close or a cadence with the beginning of the summer holidays, the<br \/>\nclosing lines were full of motion and excitement, for t<span lang=\"EN-NZ\">he last week of school&nbsp;was a busy time for the community in Wanganui.&nbsp;<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-pMw-zJpYfqo\/UM_JtCpIxyI\/AAAAAAAAC9w\/p5CDzu_5duU\/s1600\/DSC01937.JPG\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-pMw-zJpYfqo\/UM_JtCpIxyI\/AAAAAAAAC9w\/p5CDzu_5duU\/s320\/DSC01937.JPG\" width=\"240\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>The song is ended, but the melody lingers on&#8230;&#8221;&nbsp;Mother Micaela speaks at our tenth anniversary celebration.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-NZ\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-NZ\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Since&nbsp;examinations had been held the week before,&nbsp;it<br \/>\nincluded little academic work, but students and teachers were kept busy with many preparations for the end of the year.<br \/>\nBesides music practices for the final school Mass and for&nbsp;the tenth anniversary<br \/>\nMass on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, there was a thorough clean-up<br \/>\nday which left the school looking like a rain-washed field and at least one<br \/>\nSister looking as if she had been through World War III (no pictures, sorry). On<br \/>\nMonday morning, teachers went over final exams with their classes, and in the<br \/>\nafternoon everyone took a little well-earned recreation with games organised by<br \/>\nthe senior girls. The cleaning day was on Tuesday, and involved expeditions to<br \/>\nclean home economics facilities in the croquet club down the street as well as<br \/>\nthe new house next door\u2014so it was as well we had had the games on Monday; no<br \/>\none would have had the energy to run after Tuesday\u2019s work!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-hl5MUxItqPs\/UM_Irx0QxfI\/AAAAAAAAC9I\/Ic8b0RcCjuk\/s1600\/games+afternoon.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"210\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-hl5MUxItqPs\/UM_Irx0QxfI\/AAAAAAAAC9I\/Ic8b0RcCjuk\/s400\/games+afternoon.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-NZ\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Wednesday was a free day for the students,<br \/>\nbut not for the teachers, most of whom were busily writing or proofreading<br \/>\nreport comments or preparing certificates and other paraphernalia for Thursday.<br \/>\nThursday morning was occupied by a practice at the War Memorial Hall for the<br \/>\nsecondary school prize giving, and that evening teachers, students, parents and<br \/>\nfriends returned there for the ceremony, which showed the fruits of a year\u2019s<br \/>\nhard work by students and teachers. As well as academic prizes, which are<br \/>\nawarded for excellence or diligence in at least three academic subjects, there<br \/>\nwere various sports awards and character awards to be presented, and the<br \/>\nCambridge certificates from last year, as this year\u2019s will not arrive until<br \/>\nJanuary. Two boys and three girls finished Form 7 this year, and their representatives,<br \/>\nthe two valedictorians, expressed their love and gratitude to the school and<br \/>\nall who have contributed to their education.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-UsYINxiidy4\/UM_I0gHJFZI\/AAAAAAAAC9Q\/NSsZg3fyu4o\/s1600\/prizegiving.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"210\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-UsYINxiidy4\/UM_I0gHJFZI\/AAAAAAAAC9Q\/NSsZg3fyu4o\/s400\/prizegiving.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-NZ\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">At Matins of St Ambrose on Thursday<br \/>\nevening, the Sisters had discovered that the text of Duo Seraphim, which would<br \/>\nbe sung at the final school Mass on Friday, came from that day\u2019s first lesson,<br \/>\nfrom Isaias the prophet. The next day there was great excitement in the choir<br \/>\nloft as a Sister passed around a Benedictine breviary from the cupboard<br \/>\n(fortunately the Dominicans were on the same page as the Benedictines that day)<br \/>\nto share this discovery with the girls! The festivities began with a solemn Mass in the church, after<br \/>\nwhich priests, religious and parishoners processed to Signadou, the new house<br \/>\nat <st1:street w:st=\"on\"><st1:address w:st=\"on\">16 York Street<\/st1:address><\/st1:street>,<br \/>\nwhich was then blessed by Father Cranshaw. In her speech at Friday\u2019s<br \/>\nprize-giving, Sister Madeleine had referred to the fax from Bishop Fellay that<br \/>\nwas our Signadou&#8211;our sign from God to found a new convent, as St Dominic\u2019s had<br \/>\nbeen a ball of fire over the <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:placetype w:st=\"on\">village<\/st1:placetype><br \/>\n of <st1:placename w:st=\"on\">Prouille<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>. In her<br \/>\nanniversary speech on the steps of Signadou after it had been blessed, Mother<br \/>\nMicaela told the story of how this fax arrived on the 8 December 2002. It was<br \/>\nrelayed by Father Delsorte, who came running across from the priory in person,<br \/>\nwaving the fax in his hand. Punctuating the more serious matter with wit and<br \/>\nhumour, Mother Micaela went on to summarise the growth and achievements of the<br \/>\ncongregation over these ten years, and ended with a hope that, though the song<br \/>\nof this decade is ended, the melody may linger on&#8211; \u201cand may that melody always<br \/>\nbe: <i>Salve Regina.<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"283\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-ASWNAjW9DtY\/UM_JDHsMRNI\/AAAAAAAAC9g\/HedVq1YPcNY\/s400\/DSC01950.JPG\" width=\"400\" \/><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: center;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-NZ\"><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">The Priests and<br \/>\nBrothers presented the Sisters with a beautiful Belgian chasuble, ornamented<br \/>\nwith a painting of Saint Dominic.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-NZ\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">After the&nbsp;brunch, to which all the parishoners had been invited,<br \/>\nMother Rose and Sister Madeleine were driven to the airport, whence they would<br \/>\nfly to <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Auckland<\/st1:city> for the first Children of Mary<br \/>\nceremony there and thence to the <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">USA<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>, where they are currently<br \/>\nlearning about the administration of boarding schools and also doing some<br \/>\nteaching and recruitment. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-N0VANzmxFfA\/UM_JkzsUxlI\/AAAAAAAAC9o\/axYWYIwIAs4\/s1600\/DSC01984.JPG\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-N0VANzmxFfA\/UM_JkzsUxlI\/AAAAAAAAC9o\/axYWYIwIAs4\/s320\/DSC01984.JPG\" width=\"320\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-NZ\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">We look forward to hearing of their<br \/>\nadventures as we drive to <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Auckland<\/st1:city> and then fly<br \/>\nto <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Australia<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><br \/>\nfor our retreat and the reception of four new novices on the Feast of the<br \/>\nEpiphany.
