{"id":4913,"date":"2014-10-29T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-29T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2023-05-12T21:39:47","modified_gmt":"2023-05-12T21:39:47","slug":"september-2014-at-rosary-convent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/opsisters.org.nz\/preview\/2014\/10\/29\/september-2014-at-rosary-convent\/","title":{"rendered":"September 2014 at Rosary Convent"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: 13pt;\">The month of September heralds the coming<br \/>\nof Spring here in Victoria, and our community was able to rejoice in the<br \/>\nbeautiful feast days of two of our members here at Rosary Convent.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt;\">The feast of the Seven Sorrows\u00a0of the<br \/>\nBlessed Virgin on September 15 had us commemorating the very first name day of<br \/>\nSister Maria Dolores, a canonical novice whose patron is none other than the<br \/>\nQueen of Martyrs. The Mass and Office of that day recalls her Compassion with<br \/>\nthe Crucified Saviour and the Church&#8217;s confidence in her maternal intercession<br \/>\nfor the redeemed faithful of Christ. May our dear Sister and our congregation<br \/>\ncontinue to reap a rich spiritual harvest of graces for souls under the loving<br \/>\nprotection of a Mother who has suffered so much for our salvation.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;\">The 29<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of September was the Feast of St<br \/>\nMichael the Archangel and Mother General\u2019s Feast Day, and this year saw the Sisters at Rosary Convent making the day extra special in thanksgiving to<br \/>\nAlmighty God for our Foundress and Congregation.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/opsisters.org.nz\/preview\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Altarpiece_of_St_Michael_WGA-239x300.jpg\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/opsisters.org.nz\/preview\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Altarpiece_of_St_Michael_WGA-239x300.jpg\" width=\"252\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p><a style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-zxBD_5fG8ow\/VFBiM-vx4TI\/AAAAAAAAElQ\/aq1GKBXGxPM\/s1600\/st%2Bdom.jpg\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/opsisters.org.nz\/preview\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/st-2Bdom-208x300.jpg\" width=\"221\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: 13pt;\">As you might know, Mich-a-el means &#8220;who is like God,&#8221;<br \/>\nand it was this great Archangel who was chosen to lead God&#8217;s army against<br \/>\nSatan&#8217;s forces. Thus Christian antiquity portrays him wielding a sword for he<br \/>\nis truly the protector and the leader of the angelic army against the forces of<br \/>\nevil. Indeed, there can be a parallel drawn between the great Archangel and the<br \/>\ngreat St. Dominic who, in the 1200\u2019s, was chosen by God to lead\u00a0<b>a new army of Religious<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 the Dominican Order.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;\">\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: 13pt;\">St. Michael\u2019s war cry is <span style=\"color: red;\"><b>QUIS UT<br \/>\nDEUS<\/b><\/span> (who is like God?) and the Dominican motto is <span style=\"color: red;\"><b>VERITAS<\/b><\/span> (Truth). The Rosary<br \/>\nworn by all Dominicans is attached on the left side and reflects both of these<br \/>\nmaxims as the sword used in their work of defending the Catholic faith and the<br \/>\ninterests of Christ. We thus honoured both St. Michael the Archangel and St<br \/>\nDominic in Mother Mary Micaela O.P. during this festive day.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size: 13pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/opsisters.org.nz\/preview\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rosary-200x300.jpg\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/opsisters.org.nz\/preview\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rosary-200x300.jpg\" width=\"133\" height=\"200\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"color: black; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">This<br \/>\nyear, September the 29<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0fell<br \/>\non a Monday within the Spring term break. Our day at Rosary Convent began with<br \/>\nMass at Corpus Christi Church. It was a mild morning and heaven smiled sweetly<br \/>\ndown on us with the newness of spring, enabling us to lunch outside with our<br \/>\nhonoured guests Frs. Michael Delsorte and Jordie Stephens.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size: 13pt; line-height: 107%;\">The spring break was not to<br \/>\nfinish without a Community trip to the great Australian outdoors. Mount<br \/>\nCannibal, a mere 10 minute drive from the convent, was our next destination a<br \/>\nfew days after the festivities ended. At an elevation of 241 metres, this granite<br \/>\nhill offered challenging hiking along its steep paths as well as a variety of<br \/>\nnative wild-<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13pt; line-height: 107%;\">flowers and trees.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/opsisters.org.nz\/preview\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/flower-2Bhike-200x300.jpg\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/opsisters.org.nz\/preview\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/flower-2Bhike-200x300.jpg\" width=\"212\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: 13pt;\">We<br \/>\nhuffed and puffed our way up the rocky route. Two distinctive vegetation<br \/>\ncommunities exist in this reserve, with healthy woodland in the lower area and<br \/>\nlowland forest as we rise up the hill.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: 13pt;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"color: black; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\"><br \/>\nFinally, we were rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding<br \/>\ntown areas and countryside. A big lovely boulder hung off the edge of the cliff<br \/>\nat the top of the hill, and the more cautious of the group simply watched with<br \/>\nsome horror as the braver Sisters stood very close to the edge on this rocky<br \/>\noutcrop.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p><a style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/opsisters.org.nz\/preview\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_2184.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/opsisters.org.nz\/preview\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_2184.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"213\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 13pt;\">Fortunately,<br \/>\nno cannibals were sighted, and we descended downhill for a drive through the<br \/>\ncharming Tynong-Garfield countryside.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 13pt;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a style=\"clear: right; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 107%;\">Well-refreshed and ready<br \/>\nfor the beginning of the last school term, we headed back to St Thomas Aquinas<br \/>\nCollege under the patronage of Our Lady of the Rosary at the beginning of<br \/>\nOctober.
