The month of September heralds the coming
\nof Spring here in Victoria, and our community was able to rejoice in the
\nbeautiful feast days of two of our members here at Rosary Convent.\u00a0<\/span>The feast of the Seven Sorrows\u00a0of the
\nBlessed Virgin on September 15 had us commemorating the very first name day of
\nSister Maria Dolores, a canonical novice whose patron is none other than the
\nQueen of Martyrs. The Mass and Office of that day recalls her Compassion with
\nthe Crucified Saviour and the Church’s confidence in her maternal intercession
\nfor the redeemed faithful of Christ. May our dear Sister and our congregation
\ncontinue to reap a rich spiritual harvest of graces for souls under the loving
\nprotection of a Mother who has suffered so much for our salvation.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The 29th<\/sup>\u00a0of September was the Feast of St
\nMichael the Archangel and Mother General\u2019s Feast Day, and this year saw the Sisters at Rosary Convent making the day extra special in thanksgiving to
\nAlmighty God for our Foundress and Congregation.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n<\/span><\/p>\n
<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

As you might know, Mich-a-el means “who is like God,”
\nand it was this great Archangel who was chosen to lead God’s army against
\nSatan’s forces. Thus Christian antiquity portrays him wielding a sword for he
\nis truly the protector and the leader of the angelic army against the forces of
\nevil. Indeed, there can be a parallel drawn between the great Archangel and the
\ngreat St. Dominic who, in the 1200\u2019s, was chosen by God to lead\u00a0a new army of Religious<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 the Dominican Order.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\n
St. Michael\u2019s war cry is QUIS UT
\nDEUS<\/b><\/span> (who is like God?) and the Dominican motto is VERITAS<\/b><\/span> (Truth). The Rosary
\nworn by all Dominicans is attached on the left side and reflects both of these
\nmaxims as the sword used in their work of defending the Catholic faith and the
\ninterests of Christ. We thus honoured both St. Michael the Archangel and St
\nDominic in Mother Mary Micaela O.P. during this festive day.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n
This
\nyear, September the 29th<\/sup>\u00a0fell
\non a Monday within the Spring term break. Our day at Rosary Convent began with
\nMass at Corpus Christi Church. It was a mild morning and heaven smiled sweetly
\ndown on us with the newness of spring, enabling us to lunch outside with our
\nhonoured guests Frs. Michael Delsorte and Jordie Stephens.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
The spring break was not to
\nfinish without a Community trip to the great Australian outdoors. Mount
\nCannibal, a mere 10 minute drive from the convent, was our next destination a
\nfew days after the festivities ended. At an elevation of 241 metres, this granite
\nhill offered challenging hiking along its steep paths as well as a variety of
\nnative wild-<\/span>flowers and trees.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n
We
\nhuffed and puffed our way up the rocky route. Two distinctive vegetation
\ncommunities exist in this reserve, with healthy woodland in the lower area and
\nlowland forest as we rise up the hill.\u00a0<\/span>
\n
\n<\/span><\/div>\n

\nFinally, we were rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding
\ntown areas and countryside. A big lovely boulder hung off the edge of the cliff
\nat the top of the hill, and the more cautious of the group simply watched with
\nsome horror as the braver Sisters stood very close to the edge on this rocky
\noutcrop.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nFortunately,
\nno cannibals were sighted, and we descended downhill for a drive through the
\ncharming Tynong-Garfield countryside.<\/span>
\n
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span>Well-refreshed and ready
\nfor the beginning of the last school term, we headed back to St Thomas Aquinas
\nCollege under the patronage of Our Lady of the Rosary at the beginning of
\nOctober. May God grant that we will bear in mind our mission to preach the
\ntruth and to guide our charges, like St Michael and his angels, away from the
\nspiritual and moral pitfalls they might encounter.<\/span>
